Since San Joaquin Bit Service, Inc. (SJB) opened its doors in 1979, we have been dedicated to not only providing quality oilfield products, but to deliver an unmatched service record. This has been achieved through employing a steadfast workforce that is professionally trained and highly motivated to fulfill our customers’ needs no matter the time of day. We have a long history of providing services to both local and international markets and have yet to encounter a distance to far for us to travel. Above all, SJB has a safety record of more than 10,000 day without a lost time incident. Insuring its customers that no matter the task, it will be handled professionally and safely.

![]() Brad grew up in Bakersfield, Ca. and was raised by his Father Gene and mother Ollie. Gene being a tractor salesman and farmer, he had Brad growing up around agriculture and in the process he developed a charismatic and talkative side that would benefit him greatly in the future. Not knowing which career path to peruse, Brad took a job in the mid-1970s with his uncle and cousin who had a small drill bit shop. He then began to find that his calling was in the oil industry. After a few years of learning the business, his ambitions got the best of him and in 1979 he set out to create what is now one of the largest privately owned new and used drill bit companies in the western states, San Joaquin Bit Service, Inc. Over his nearly 40 years in business, he has attracted the best and brightest people the oilfields have to offer to. Some of which have been with the company for over 30 years. While providing his customers with an honest, and fair transaction he was able to cultivate some of the best business relationships the industry has to offer. ![]() Joe grew up in Bakersfield and as a young boy spent his days riding around with his father Brad to drilling rigs up and down the state of California. When he was not in the truck or at school he could be found in the bit shop, treating it like a playground. His father instilled the entrepreneurial spirit in him and as a young man found himself building a number of small businesses and working various odd jobs. After graduating high school early, he made the decision to jump straight into the family business. For the next few years of sweeping floors and painting bits, he was promoted to a sales position in 2010 where he was able to work in and experience the majority of California oil and gas fields from the Gysers, to THUMS, and Belridge, to Kern River and many more. In 2014 Joe, attended real estate school and is still today a licensed REALTOR. He has taken various leadership and sales training course on his quest for knowledge and aspires to take lead a roll at San Joaquin Bit and other various companies he is involved with. Currently Joe is the Operations Manager of San Joaquin Bit and Go Green Equipment Leasing. In addition, he oversees the property management side of the family business. Joe maintains a strong work ethic, and is actively involved in daily operations at all levels either in the field or in the office. He is still actively pursuing higher education and is always looking for new ways to grow the business. His personal philosophy is, “Lead from the front |
![]() Merritt was born and raised in Bakersfield, California. After graduating from North High School in 1987, he went to work at a local well head company as a shop hand. Over the next few years, he learned the ropes of the business moving his way from shop hand, service hand to salesman. In 1991, he started working for San Joaquin Bit Inc. as a field salesman. He began selling drill bits to local oil and water well companies in California and Nevada. In 2001, he became the Vice President of SJB Inc. and still holds this position today. He manages the day to day operations, which includes the purchasing and forecasting of all SJB Inc. drill bit needs. Merritt has been responsible for bringing on the Geothermal Industry business for SJB Inc., supplying the majority of the geothermal operators around the world. From California, Nevada, Utah, and Hawaii to international work in Kenya, Guatemala, and Honduras. Outside of work, Merritt enjoys spending quality time with his wife DeeDee, sons Justin and Garrett, and their families. He especially loves being Papa to his four beautiful, amazing, and very energetic grandkids that keep him very busy! Merritt also loves being outside on the barbecue and is always cooking for family and friends. He also takes time out of his schedule to contribute to charitable organizations around the community which include the Wounded Heroes Foundation and the Bakersfield Firefighter's Burn Foundation. |
![]() Brian was born and raised in Bakersfield California. After graduating from South High school in 1993, he went to work in the California oil industry for a local drilling contractor where he spent the next 4 years. He then went to work as an MWD operator drilling Oil, Gas and Geothermal wells all over California (land and offshore) and the United States. In 2000 Brian began working for a Canadian based company where he serviced and tested Mud Motors, Jars and Shock Tools, Cored wells and maintained coring tools and operated MWD units for multiple operators. He then transitioned into the Drill Bits Industry in 2005. He has held multiple Field, Management and Technical Sales positions with Drill Bits in the international oil, gas and geothermal industries on both land and offshore. Brian is the current President of The Geothermal Golf Committee, Former National Chapter Representative and current Board Member for the West Coast chapter of the American Association of Drilling Engineers and a current Board Member of Wounded Heroes Fund. |
![]() Patrick was born and raised in Bakersfield California and is the 3rd generation in his family to dedicate his life to the oilfield. His family owned a small local drilling company where he worked most of his younger years. He attended Frontier High School and participated in FFA where showed steers, Patrick also worked at a local drilling tool company part time during his Jr. year. He then became the first graduating class at Frontier High School in 2009. Shortly after graduating he attended and graduated from the Angeles National Forest wild land fire academy. After, a short period as a seasonal fireman, he began his fulltime career in the oil industry. After two years of working up the ranks he became a field salesman for a local company in 2012 then moved over to SJB in 2018. |
![]() Brock was born and raised in Bakersfield, California. He graduated from Centennial high school in 2008, and after a brief stent at Bakersfield College, he began his oil field career. He entered the oil industry at a local safety company and spent time learning the industry. He was a member of the confined space rescue team and worked in various local fields. He then went to work as an MWD operator drilling oil and gas wells throughout California. After a brief industry slow down, he moved on and became the project manger of an industrial and environmental company. He traveled up and down the state responding to oil spills, cleaning tanks, and building customer relationships. In 2013, Brock transitioned back into the drilling industry and became a member of the San Joaquin bit sales team. |
